Pokemon Adventures

The manga which I have chosen to review this time is the first manga I ever read, and am still reading, Pokemon Adventures. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin review, by ZXY8Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin review, by ZXY8
I have decided that I want to review anime and/or manga that I have seen/read. The first one that I have decided to review is Attack On Titan, or also known as Shingeki No Kyojin. Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 62 chapters have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 62 chapters.
Months ago, I desired to watch a new cartoon/anime and I wasn’t sure what to choose. I had heard people praise Attack On Titan, so I decided to watch an episode to see if I would like it. And quite frankly, I loved it. The show is about humanity surviving against human-eating giant titans. One day, a gigantic wall which protects civilisation from the titans is penetrated by a new breed of titan. Soon enough, titans are inside the walls and devouring people.
Something which stuck with me that made me realise I will really like this show, is that the main character’s mother is e
One Piece: One Piece review, by ZXY8One Piece
This is my second anime and/or manga which I have chosen to review, following my review on Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin which can be viewed here . Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 775 chapters have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 775 chapters.
I began watching One Piece on November 12, 2014, not too long after I finished drawing all the original 151 Kanto Pokemon, which can be viewed here . One piece was critically acclaimed with many positive reviews, and it sounded like a show I would like, so I decided to watch. One Piece is about a pirate named Monkey D. Luffy, and his adventures to sail The Grand Line to find the treasure the One Piece, and ultimately to become King Of The Pirates. Along the way Luffy meets various new friends, each with their own quirky behaviours. He assembles a crew (The Straw Hat Pirates) and fights copious enemies, all while gaining
Hunter x Hunter: Hunter x Hunter review, by ZXY8Hunter x Hunter
The third anime/manga which I have decided to review is Hunter x Hunter. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: One Piece:
Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 349 chapters have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 349 chapters. Just to inform in case people are wondering, the anime I watched was the 2011 version of Hunter x Hunter, which is the canon version.
Like other manga/anime which I have chosen to read/watch, I chose Hunter x Hunter to watch as I was looking for an anime to watch, and Hunter x Hunter sounded like I would enjoy it. My prediction was correct as Hunter x Hunter is a top class anime/manga. Hunter x Hunter is about an eleven year old boy (twelve years old in the anime) named Gon Freecss who desires to become a Hunter, a highly skilled world-renowned professional who is not only powerful, but who also specialises

Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, over 520 chapters have been released, and I have read up to chapter 503 so I may include anything that is contained in the first 503 chapters. The reason I am presently not up to date with this manga is because for a long time only 488 chapters were translated in English. After I had read the first 488 chapters, I moved onto Claymore, which I will make a review about eventually. Only recently English versions of the latest chapters have been translated and uploaded. On a site I use to read manga, 524.5 chapters have been released, and eventually I will read the chapters I haven’t read.

Pokemon Adventures is a telling of the world of Pokemon, with themes present that are more mature than the themes seen in the games. The story arcs follow the hero/heroes on their quests to achieve their Pokemon dreams. The main characters are named after their respective games – Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, etc. There are also villainous organisations, as well as evil gym leaders and Elite Four trainers. The personalities of the characters vary with each of the heroes having their own goal which they strive towards. Various villains also go through redemption by eventually allying themselves with the heroes in order to eliminate the evil present.

Pokemon Adventures has numerous story arcs which are of a high quality, however there comes a point where the quality does decrease a bit. It is still a very good manga, but later on in the series the quality is not as good as it was to begin with. The first five story arcs (1. Red, Blue, and Green; 2. Yellow; 3. Gold, Silver, and Crystal; 4. Ruby and Sapphire; 5. FireRed and LeafGreen) are of a high quality, with the sixth arc (Emerald) just beneath. The seventh (Diamond and Pearl) and eighth (Platinum) arcs are the lowest quality arcs; they are not bad arcs, but their quality is lower than that of the first six arcs. The ninth (HeartGold and SoulSilver) arc is better than the previous two arcs as it incorporates characters from arcs previous, along with a better storyline. The tenth (Black and White) arc is the arc I am presently reading and it is better than arcs seven and eight, but not as good as the earlier arcs.

The first six arcs intertwine which ultimately results in all of the heroes defeating the evil near the end of the Emerald arc. The characterisation and stories are done well in these arcs, whereas in the Diamond and Pearl and Platinum arcs the heroes are not as likable as the previous heroes. This is not to say they are unlikeable as in they are bad people, but rather their personalities are dull and less memorable in comparison to the previous heroes. The storylines are also not done as well in these arcs in comparison to the earlier arcs. Perhaps if past heroes were to have entered these arcs then they may have been better, however it still would not take away from the characterisation and the storylines already present. The ninth arc is of a decent quality, while the tenth arc has improved the characterisation of the main characters in comparison to arcs seven and eight. The story is also a higher quality story in comparison to those arcs. In the later arcs, other than arc nine, there is barely any connection to the earlier arcs and this is a negative. While having a new hero or new heroes for an arc is fine, not presenting past heroes which the audience have grown to like, is a reason these arcs are of lesser quality. By not presenting former heroes, it is as though those former main characters have been eliminated from the story and it is a completely new story altogether. While having a new story for a new arc is a good thing, not intertwining stories over numerous arcs results in a decrease in the quality of these arcs. I felt as though there was a climax in the stories of the main characters near the end of the Emerald arc when all the heroes combine to defeat the evil. By not linking arcs seven, eight and ten to the previous arcs, the quality decreased.

The reason the Emerald arc is ranked lower than the first five arcs is because the main character of Emerald is not as memorable as a main character in comparison to the previous heroes.

I would rate the first five arcs a combined 9.5/10, with the sixth arc a 9.25/10. The following arcs lower the overall ranking to 9/10.

Final score: 9/10
