Gintama

The anime/manga I have decided to review this time is Gintama. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin review, by ZXY8Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin review, by ZXY8
I have decided that I want to review anime and/or manga that I have seen/read. The first one that I have decided to review is Attack On Titan, or also known as Shingeki No Kyojin. Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 62 chapters have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 62 chapters.
Months ago, I desired to watch a new cartoon/anime and I wasn’t sure what to choose. I had heard people praise Attack On Titan, so I decided to watch an episode to see if I would like it. And quite frankly, I loved it. The show is about humanity surviving against human-eating giant titans. One day, a gigantic wall which protects civilisation from the titans is penetrated by a new breed of titan. Soon enough, titans are inside the walls and devouring people.
Something which stuck with me that made me realise I will really like this show, is that the main character’s mother is e
One Piece: One Piece review, by ZXY8One Piece
This is my second anime and/or manga which I have chosen to review, following my review on Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin which can be viewed here . Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 775 chapters have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 775 chapters.
I began watching One Piece on November 12, 2014, not too long after I finished drawing all the original 151 Kanto Pokemon, which can be viewed here . One piece was critically acclaimed with many positive reviews, and it sounded like a show I would like, so I decided to watch. One Piece is about a pirate named Monkey D. Luffy, and his adventures to sail The Grand Line to find the treasure the One Piece, and ultimately to become King Of The Pirates. Along the way Luffy meets various new friends, each with their own quirky behaviours. He assembles a crew (The Straw Hat Pirates) and fights copious enemies, all while gaining
Hunter x Hunter: Hunter x Hunter review, by ZXY8Hunter x Hunter
The third anime/manga which I have decided to review is Hunter x Hunter. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: One Piece:
Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 349 chapters have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 349 chapters. Just to inform in case people are wondering, the anime I watched was the 2011 version of Hunter x Hunter, which is the canon version.
Like other manga/anime which I have chosen to read/watch, I chose Hunter x Hunter to watch as I was looking for an anime to watch, and Hunter x Hunter sounded like I would enjoy it. My prediction was correct as Hunter x Hunter is a top class anime/manga. Hunter x Hunter is about an eleven year old boy (twelve years old in the anime) named Gon Freecss who desires to become a Hunter, a highly skilled world-renowned professional who is not only powerful, but who also specialises
Pokemon Adventures: Pokemon Adventures review, by ZXY8Pokemon Adventures
The manga which I have chosen to review this time is the first manga I ever read, and am still reading, Pokemon Adventures. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: One Piece: Hunter x Hunter:
Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, over 520 chapters have been released, and I have read up to chapter 503 so I may include anything that is contained in the first 503 chapters. The reason I am presently not up to date with this manga is because for a long time only 488 chapters were translated in English. After I had read the first 488 chapters, I moved onto Claymore, which I will make a review about eventually. Only recently English versions of the latest chapters have been translated and uploaded. On a site I use to read manga, 524.5 chapters have been released, and eventually I will read the chapters I haven’t read.
Pokemon Adventures is a telling
Death Note: Death Note review, by ZXY8Death Note
The anime/manga I have decided to review this time is Death Note. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: One Piece: Hunter x Hunter: Pokemon Adventures:
Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. Death Note is complete, so I may include anything that is contained throughout.
Death Note is about a genius high school student named Light Yagami who one day comes across a book known as the Death Note. The Death Note is a supernatural book which has the ability to kill anyone whose name is written in it. Shortly after acquiring the Death Note, Light meets a Shinigami names Ryuk who tells him that he was the one who initially dropped the Death Note in the human world. Light wants to create a new world by eliminating all the criminals in the world. After extensive deaths, Light is referred to by the public as Kira. Shortly after, the greatest detective in the world kno

Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 567 chapters and 301 episodes have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 567 chapters and 301 episodes.

Like other anime/manga I have gotten into, I chose to watch Gintama initially as I was looking for a new anime to watch and it sounded like I would enjoy Gintama. Gintama is without a doubt, the funniest form of media I have ever seen. This includes all anime, all manga, all non-anime television shows, all movies, all comics, and so forth. Gintama is more humorous than classics such as South Park, Family Guy, and the first eight seasons of The Simpsons.

Gintama takes place in Edo, Japan, sometime after aliens, or Amanto, have invaded and conquered Earth after a multiple decade battle against the samurai. Gintama follows a samurai named Gintoki Sakata, or Gin, who is in his mid-twenties and runs an Odd Jobs business with Shinpachi Shimura, and Kagura. Gin was one of the most powerful samurai during the war, however these days he is rather lazy and likes to spend his time gambling what little money he has, or to spend it reading manga or drinking alcohol. He often does not have enough money to pay the rent, and then gets in trouble with his landlady Otose.

Shinpachi is a teenage boy who wishes to learn about the ways of the samurai, so he decides to work with Gintoki and learn from him. Shinpachi often plays the “straight man” in terms of humour, while also being rather strong in terms of strength. He is the leader of a fan club for a famous singer Tsu Terakado, with whom he has an obsession for.

Kagura is a teenage girl, and a Yato which is an incredibly strong species of Amanto. She does not have enough money to return to her home planet, so she decides to stay with Gin and work for him. Kagura is extremely powerful, and has a similar personality to Gin. Over the course of the series, Kagura becomes more like Gin with her behaviours.

Soon into the series, the Odd Jobs team meet a giant dog whom Kagura named Sadaharu, who is eventually adopted by Gin and Kagura. Sadaharu enjoys biting people’s heads, and connects well with Kagura. Over time, Sadaharu develops more of a bond with Gin and Shinpachi, and he can carry the trio on his back.

Soon the Odd Jobs team come across the Shinsengumi, who are the police force. They are lead by Isao Kondo, a loyal man who is often referred to as a gorilla. He has a crush on Shinpachi’s sister Tae, and he repeatedly stalks her; she responds by beating him up.

Toshiro Hijikata is the vice commander of the Shinsengumi and is known as the demon vice commander. He is incredibly powerful and takes his work seriously. He also has an obsession with mayonnaise, be it piling heaps of mayonnaise on food, to having a mayonnaise shaped lighter. Over the course of Gintama, Toshiro develops a rivalry with Gin and they are often placed in situations where they come across each other.

Sougo Okita is a sadist who also works for the Shinsengumi. He is one of the most powerful swordsmen in the land, while enjoying infliction pain upon others whenever he can. Sougo is able to make most people be submissive to him, while he is also in a battle to try and kill Toshiro. He has a rivalry with Kagura, while eventually deeply respecting Gin.

Kotaro Katsura is a samurai who fought alongside Gin during the war. He leads a rebel faction against the government, and is often trying to escape the Shinsengumi and other police organisations. While being highly intelligent, he often is shown to be quite unintelligent by giving up his identity when being undercover. His saying of “It’s not Zura, it’s Katsura” is one of many running gags throughout Gintama. This is said when someone calls Katsura the name Zura. The name Zura can also be replaced by any other name he is calling himself. Katsura also has a “pet” named Elisabeth, who is actually a person inside a duck/penguin costume.

Kyubei Yagyu is a woman who was raised as a man, who is a childhood friend of Tae. She has feelings for Tae, and reacts violently when touched by men. Ayame Sarutobi is a ninja who obsesses over Gin, and gets lost without her glasses. Tsukuyo is an assassin who over the course of the series, develops feelings for Gin. Shige Shige Tokugawa was the Shogun of Edo who was often put into humorous situations which involve Gin and his comrades.

There are many more memorable characters throughout Gintama, who are involved in humorous and serious storylines. While other anime and manga focus on serious story arcs with humorous parts put in, Gintama mostly focuses on humorous arcs with some serious arcs and storylines throughout. However when Gintama does create a serious storyline, it is done fantastically. While Gintama mainly focuses on comedy, since chapter 502, and episode 300, Gintama has presently been focusing on more serious arcs. This begins with the Shogun Assassination Arc, which is done amazingly. While reading this arc and the following arc, the quality of it was so high that I was thinking that the quality is that of One Piece.

Another positive for Gintama is the lack of over-sexualization of most women. While other manga that do over-sexualise women can be great, such as One Piece, it is good to see that most women are not created in an over-sexualised manor.

The psychological battles are another incredible part of Gintama. At once point, four men who are taking part in a fight have all decided to go to the toilet. After they have gone, they find out that none of them have any toilet paper. This begins an intense psychological battle which eventually involves sandpaper. Another incredible psychological battle is when Gin and Umibozu (Kagura’s father) both dress up as Santa and unintentionally meet. They then end up believing that the other Santa is the real Santa.

Overall, Gintama is the funniest show or manga I have ever seen. The reason I am scoring Gintama 9.5/10 and not 10/10, is because while Gintama is the most humorous form of media I have ever seen, comedy in general is unable to reach the epic levels which serious genres can. While Gintama has shown to be as epic as One Piece at times, since Gintama mainly focuses on comedy, it cannot reach the epic heights of manga such as One Piece. Just to clarify, I am not downgrading Gintama at all; this is the highest score I could give an anime/manga where the prime focus is comedy.

Final score: 9.5/10
