Cowboy Bebop

The anime/manga I have decided to review this time is Cowboy Bebop. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin review, by ZXY8Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin review, by ZXY8
I have decided that I want to review anime and/or manga that I have seen/read. The first one that I have decided to review is Attack On Titan, or also known as Shingeki No Kyojin. Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 62 chapters have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 62 chapters.
Months ago, I desired to watch a new cartoon/anime and I wasn’t sure what to choose. I had heard people praise Attack On Titan, so I decided to watch an episode to see if I would like it. And quite frankly, I loved it. The show is about humanity surviving against human-eating giant titans. One day, a gigantic wall which protects civilisation from the titans is penetrated by a new breed of titan. Soon enough, titans are inside the walls and devouring people.
Something which stuck with me that made me realise I will really like this show, is that the main character’s mother is e
One Piece: One Piece review, by ZXY8One Piece
This is my second anime and/or manga which I have chosen to review, following my review on Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin which can be viewed here . Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 775 chapters have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 775 chapters.
I began watching One Piece on November 12, 2014, not too long after I finished drawing all the original 151 Kanto Pokemon, which can be viewed here . One piece was critically acclaimed with many positive reviews, and it sounded like a show I would like, so I decided to watch. One Piece is about a pirate named Monkey D. Luffy, and his adventures to sail The Grand Line to find the treasure the One Piece, and ultimately to become King Of The Pirates. Along the way Luffy meets various new friends, each with their own quirky behaviours. He assembles a crew (The Straw Hat Pirates) and fights copious enemies, all while gaining
Hunter x Hunter: Hunter x Hunter review, by ZXY8Hunter x Hunter
The third anime/manga which I have decided to review is Hunter x Hunter. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: One Piece:
Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 349 chapters have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 349 chapters. Just to inform in case people are wondering, the anime I watched was the 2011 version of Hunter x Hunter, which is the canon version.
Like other manga/anime which I have chosen to read/watch, I chose Hunter x Hunter to watch as I was looking for an anime to watch, and Hunter x Hunter sounded like I would enjoy it. My prediction was correct as Hunter x Hunter is a top class anime/manga. Hunter x Hunter is about an eleven year old boy (twelve years old in the anime) named Gon Freecss who desires to become a Hunter, a highly skilled world-renowned professional who is not only powerful, but who also specialises
Pokemon Adventures: Pokemon Adventures review, by ZXY8Pokemon Adventures
The manga which I have chosen to review this time is the first manga I ever read, and am still reading, Pokemon Adventures. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: One Piece: Hunter x Hunter:
Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, over 520 chapters have been released, and I have read up to chapter 503 so I may include anything that is contained in the first 503 chapters. The reason I am presently not up to date with this manga is because for a long time only 488 chapters were translated in English. After I had read the first 488 chapters, I moved onto Claymore, which I will make a review about eventually. Only recently English versions of the latest chapters have been translated and uploaded. On a site I use to read manga, 524.5 chapters have been released, and eventually I will read the chapters I haven’t read.
Pokemon Adventures is a telling
Death Note: Death Note review, by ZXY8Death Note
The anime/manga I have decided to review this time is Death Note. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: One Piece: Hunter x Hunter: Pokemon Adventures:
Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. Death Note is complete, so I may include anything that is contained throughout.
Death Note is about a genius high school student named Light Yagami who one day comes across a book known as the Death Note. The Death Note is a supernatural book which has the ability to kill anyone whose name is written in it. Shortly after acquiring the Death Note, Light meets a Shinigami names Ryuk who tells him that he was the one who initially dropped the Death Note in the human world. Light wants to create a new world by eliminating all the criminals in the world. After extensive deaths, Light is referred to by the public as Kira. Shortly after, the greatest detective in the world kno
Gintama: Gintama review, by ZXY8Gintama
The anime/manga I have decided to review this time is Gintama. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: One Piece: Hunter x Hunter: Pokemon Adventures: Death Note:
Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 567 chapters and 301 episodes have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 567 chapters and 301 episodes.
Like other anime/manga I have gotten into, I chose to watch Gintama initially as I was looking for a new anime to watch and it sounded like I would enjoy Gintama. Gintama is without a doubt, the funniest form of media I have ever seen. This includes all anime, all manga, all non-anime television shows, all movies, all comics, and so forth. Gintama is more humorous than classics such as South Park, Family Guy, and the first eight seasons of The Simpsons.
Gintama takes place in Edo, Japan, somet
Fairy Tail: Fairy Tail review, by ZXY8Fairy Tail
The anime/manga I have decided to review this time is Fairy Tail. My previous reviews can be viewed here: Attack On Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin: One Piece: Hunter x Hunter: Pokemon Adventures: Death Note: Gintama:
Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, 466 chapters and 265 episodes have been released, so I may include anything that is contained in the first 466 chapters and 265 episodes.
Like other anime/manga I have gotten into, I chose to watch Fairy Tail initially as I was looking for a new anime to watch and it sounded like I would enjoy it. My prediction was correct, and Fairy Tail is still one of my favourite anime/manga. Fairy Tail takes place in the world of Earth Land, and follows the adventures of a Fire Dragon Slayer wizard named Natsu Dragneel who seeks out his long lost dragon father Igneel. Natsu shortly meets up with a celestial w

Just to let people know, this will contain spoilers. As of typing this, all 26 episodes have aired, so I may include anything that is contained throughout the series.

Like other anime/manga I have gotten into, I chose to watch Cowboy Bebop as I was looking for a new anime to watch and it sounded like I would enjoy it. Cowboy Bebop is a critically acclaimed anime which tells the story of a group of bounty hunters who travel throughout space in search of criminals and their own personal goals. The main character is Spike Spiegel who is a former criminal from the Red Dragon Syndicate. He left the Syndicate and is in search of the love of his life Julia, who is on the run from the same organisation. Spike is a laidback individual who is joined alongside his friend Jet Black, a former Inter-Solar System Police investigator. Jet is reliable and mature, and became a bounty hunter after leaving the corrupt police force.

The duo are joined by Ein, a dog with artificially enhanced intelligence. Shortly into the series the trio are joined by Faye Valentine, a selfish woman who seeks money and enjoys to gamble it away. Faye has amnesia and seeks to learn about her past. The last main character to join the crew is Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV, a teenage girl who is an elite hacker. Edward is eccentric and intelligent, and she enjoys living life. The main antagonist in Cowboy Bebop is Vicious, a Red Dragon Syndicate member who seeks to become the ruler of the organisation through any means possible. Vicious seeks to kill Spike for having an affair with his then girlfriend Julia.

The characterisation is done well throughout, with the growth of characters occurring with a natural feel instead of feeling forced. The individual episode stories are good as standalone episodes, however there is a lack of multi-part episodes in the series. There are only two episode stories which span longer than a single episode. This is one of the two main reasons why I did not rate Cowboy Bebop higher. Series with standalone episodes work when the series are comedies with the focus being on comedy; a prime example is Gintama, which is a comedy manga/anime which has serious chapters, episodes and arcs every now and then. Standalone episodes are not that effective in stories where the prime genre is not comedy. These types of episodes are fine for introducing new characters, or major plot points to the story. However episodes which have little or no bearing on the overall story of the series, should not be used often as it does not leave the viewer wanting wondering what will happen next. For example, if a cliffhanger is used at the end of an episode, then the viewer is wondering what will happen next. The viewer will then want to watch more in order to find out what happens. Due to the lack of multipart episodes, I did not have the feeling often of wanting to watch more to find out what happened.

The other main reason why I do not rate Cowboy Bebop higher is because the main character dies at the end of the series. While it is somewhat ambiguous as to whether Spike lives or dies, if he lived then it would have been more obvious. Stories with the main character dying at the end of the series is often a negative; the only times I believe it is acceptable for the main character to die at the end of a series is if they are an evil protagonist with no redeeming qualities.

Overall, Cowboy Bebop is a good anime which is why I have scored it highly. However the small amount of multi-part episodes, along with the death of the main character are the reasons why it does not score higher.

Final score: 9.25/10
